The Muscle Help Foundation charity’s much anticipated inaugural Virtual Laughter Muscle Dream Programme on Tuesday 22nd December was a resounding success. Sixteen beneficiaries and families from across the UK participated. See below the feedback that the charity received and watch the short film that illustrates some of the high-points from this wellbeing initiative.
"From feeling blue to feeling filled with glee, what a contrast to our family's emotional wellbeing that laughter hour made"
“The girls loved it! They are still laughing at some of the jokes even now; just what they needed to pick them up during these current times”
“It made us feel connected to some sort of normality, seeing all the other families and most importantly, it made us happy!”
“The boys said it was funny, enjoyable, and it took their (our) minds off everything for a while”
“It gave us all a lift in to Christmas. We have revisited it several times since including Christmas day - definitely worth repeating!"
“It made us feel very happy indeed! Our loads felt lighter and we all forgot about the world’s troubles during this pressing time - you and your charity are so kind, thank you”
“It was great to be able to do something fun as a family during these difficult times. You should most definitely repeat it and I have loads of other Duchenne family friends who would love to do it too!”
“It provided the whole family with a great amount of laughter and joy at the perfect time - mum even took some of it into her work!”
"This was the first time a charity has arranged something like this, with all the families together having similar circumstances. In this time of pandemic, when everyone is under huge pressure and stress, laughter yoga or laughter exercises was really needed. We learnt about the importance of laughter as a way to relieve stress. To be very honest, we actually had forgotten about how to laugh during these many months of lockdown. It elevated our moods for sometime. The provision of food during the festive period, when everyone was separated from their extended families to come together and enjoy a meal was really helpful. It gave us the feeling that someone is there for us and looking after us. For my family especially, food is a way of enjoyment and socialisation - I hope you will plan something like this again in the future"
NOTE: the charity is planning a second Virtual Laughter Muscle Dream Programme which will take place before the end of March 2021.
