The Muscle Help Foundation charity is running a national campaign called ‘The Power of 657’ – the mission is simple. To deliver 657 transformational wish fulfilment experiences called ’Muscle Dreams’, for children, young people and their families with Muscular Dystrophy across the UK – that’s one life-changing, cherished moment-in-time for every muscle in the human body.
As of May 2023, the charity will have delivered 473 Muscle Dream interventions with 184 to go to reach its overall 657 target. To deliver the remaining experiences via a combination of both virtual and in-person activities and in applying a full-cost recovery analysis, the charity is looking to raise between £100,000 to £150,000.
We are in desperate need of donations to realise the 657 mission that seeks to change lives and give hope to children and young people (8-28yrs) across the UK living with the progressive, muscle wasting condition Muscular Dystrophy.
“There is something incredibly powerful that happened as a result of the Muscle Help Foundation charity’s ‘Music 1.0’ virtual session; it has given our son (Bertie, pictured above) hope, confidence and he has recognised what he is capable of. We know as his family just how talented and capable he is, and now he knows and believes it too which is just wonderful to see.” Mum of ‘Bertie’, 9yrs |
The charity's online Muscle Dream activities will shortly include a new suite of bespoke programmes that are currently being scoped out to include a number of virtual interventions that are focused on mental health and emotional wellbeing. From Art, Laughter, Improv and Superhero programmes to Thrive/Flourish, It's How You See It and Mindfulness for Mums.
Every virtual moment-in-time is different, but its impact is always the same – these carefully tailored Muscle Dream moments-in-time are designed to promote wellbeing, boost physiological and psychological wellness, improve confidence and communication skills, uplift morale and boost resilience as well as help participants celebrate their strengths. As we say, that's the #powerof657!
Increased confidence (70%), self-esteem (76%), starting new hobbies (66%), feeling empowered to achieve life goals (73%) and developing new skills (61%) are just some of the key outcomes for children and young adults living with life limiting conditions like DMD that make up >96% of the Muscle Help Foundation's beneficiary audience, a study by the University of Hertfordshire has found.
This is the only known research in existence to robustly investigate and academically validate the impacts that personalised Muscle Dream fulfilment experiences like taking the controls of an aircraft and experiencing level flight, enjoying the thrill of a passenger ride in a high-performance racing car, learning a new skill, or meeting a sporting hero, can have on the lives of those living with conditions like Muscular Dystrophy.
In addition, the charity’s ongoing ‘In Conversation With’ broadcast series with inspiring guests, personalities and some past Muscle Dream beneficiaries continue to support our Muscle Warrior community across the UK in enabling them to feel more connected and less isolated. Now in its 2nd series with 25 episodes now completed, these conversational broadcasts have become a lifeline to our beneficiaries and their families, more so relevant and important during the COVID-19 pandemic.
For our beneficiaries, every Muscle Dream experience is an opportunity to realise their potential. For their family and friends, each one opens up a support network of like-minded individuals. That’s the power of our promise.
That’s the #PowerOf657.
