THE WETWHEELS EXPERIENCE

Central to the Wetwheels experience is the reality of being active on board and learning a little about seamanship alongside peers, friends and families. Being out on the open water is a wonderful thing. Horizons will be extended, aspirations broadened, new opportunities opened up. We also know just how important social connection is, so you’ll meet other Muscle Warrior families.

WETWHEELS

ACCESSIBLE POWERBOAT – YOU’LL TAKE THE CONTROLS

Wetwheels is a fully wheelchair accessible power boat. There is also a ramp to the steering position given anyone in a wheelchair, be it manual or electric, the amazing opportunity to take the controls and drive the boat.

YOUR WETWHEELS PROGRAMME

Join us for an amazing all-day programme along the beautiful Beaulieu River. The day programme starts off at Hamble (Mercury Yacht Harbour), Hampshire. Boarding Wetwheels, you will go out into the Solent, for a high-speed trip along the coast to the beautiful mouth of the Beaulieu River.

BUCKLERS HARD – PRIVATELY OWNED ESTUARY

Once we reach the mouth of the river, we will meander up to Bucklers Hard at a gentle 5 knots. One of the few privately owned estuaries in the world, the Beaulieu River has been carefully conserved for over four centuries. This is a wonderful area rich with wildlife.

A STUNNING HAVEN FOR WILDLIFE

Originally granted to the monks of Beaulieu Abbey by King John in 1204, the rights and responsibilities of caring for the Beaulieu River later passed to the Montagu family. Their careful ownership has created a river which is a stunning haven for wildlife.

WETWHEELS 3

IN THE HEART OF THE NEW FOREST

Our destination is Buckler’s Hard, located on the banks of the Beaulieu River, in the heart of the New Forest. Buckler’s Hard remains untouched by the passage of time. Once we arrive there, you will be welcome to disembark and we’ll come together for a picnic. Time to relax, hit the pause button and enjoy the magnificent surroundings.

HEART OF THE NEW FOREST

TRANQUIL HAVEN – PAUSE, BREATHE, RELAX

Once a thriving shipbuilding village where ships for Nelson’s fleet at Trafalgar were built, now Buckler’s Hard is a tranquil haven, perfect for escaping the hustle and bustle of modern life, a time to hit the pause button, breathe and relax. You will be welcome to disembark and explore the village at your leisure. At a pre-arranged time, you will meet back at Wetwheels. The group will then return home.

ABOUT FOOD & REFRESHMENTS

You can bring your own picnic, sandwiches, nibbles and refreshments (non-alcoholic) or there’s a choice of where to grab a quick bite to eat if you prefer at either The Master Builder’s House Hotel or The Captain’s Table Café – either way, there is plenty of space to settle down and watch the world go by.

WHEELCHAIR ACCESS + TOILETS

Buckler’s Hard has remained almost unchanged since the 18th century and is by its nature not easy for wheelchair access. The site includes mainly gravel paths, some steep slopes, narrow doorways, and stairs to historic buildings. The Visitor Centre and Museum at Buckler’s Hard is on various levels as it is located within historic buildings. There is a fully accessible toilet adjacent to the Captain’s Table.
