NEWS ALERT – the Mountain Muscle Warriors successfully summited Mt. Kilimanjaro on Tuesday 13 September 2011 between 08.00hrs – 09.30hrs at Uhuru Peak at 5895m – so far, over £10,000 (incl gift-aid) has been raised for the charity – huge congratulations!
Introducing the Mountain Muscle Warriors! Their mission is simple – 11 inexperienced mountain climbers, 1 huge mountain … in aid of children who suffer from Muscular Dystrophy. On Thursday 8 September 2011, the team will depart the UK heading to Tanzania and hopefully they will reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro at nearly 6000m via the Rongai route – none of them have done anything like this before! Personal and team goals have been set, training began some months ago, they’re learning about the mountain, they’re learning about each other, team spirit is strong, their journey has begun…
Pictured below are members of the Mountain Muscle Warriors team who buddied-up with a number of boys with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) at a friendly, informal evening event hosted at the University of Hertfordshire in collaboration with the Duchenne Family Support Group (DFSG), a partner to The Muscle Help Foundation.
The purpose of the event was to bring together families and DMD boys who took precious time out of their busy lives to come and personally meet the team. It also provided a useful platform for everyone to learn a little more about the Kili-boys and the charity as well as an opportunity for the Mountain Muscle Warriors to learn more about Muscular Dystrophy and the charity’s Muscle Dreams programme.
The team came together in early 2010 and is being galvanised by UH (University of Hertfordshire) Sports and Exercise Science student Lewis Francotte pictured below (bottom-right, on left knee). Their aim is to raise awareness and funds for the charity’s Muscle Dreams programme that delivers amazing experiences in the UK for children and young people with the muscle wasting disease Muscular Dystrophy.
The other team members are: Issac Searle, Dan Grimes, Ben Luck, Fabrizio Gargiulo, Tom Parkins, Justin Roberts, Dominic Boyle, Matt Thorneycroft, Mukti Limbu and Ian Glasscock who recently joined following a successful bid on a rather unique auction star prize that provided the 11th place on the team … welcome Ian!
