Seven students on the Access to Higher Education programme at North Hertfordshire College in Stevenage have started a tough training regime in the hope of completing two marathons in two days together with a fundraising drive to raise funds for The Muscle Help Foundation.

The first event is the Exmoor Coastal Trial Series encompassing difficult climbs and long descents, open moorland, thickly wooded coombes, historical ruins, dizzying cliffs, beautiful rivers and a stretch of coastline that is unsurpassed. When this first marathon is completed, two of the team will travel the next day to Brighton to attempt the Brighton Marathon, a road race that takes in the sights of central Brighton, including the seafront and the famous Brighton Pier.

Jordan Farenden the team leader said: “My friends much like myself knew very little about muscular dystrophy before Michael McGrath, the charity’s CEO and Chief Muscle Warrior visited us at the college, giving us an insight into the organisation’s work, its goals and ambitions as well as his own experiences of living with the muscle wasting disease – it was an eye opener and I hope that if you’re reading this, you’ll not only support my friends and I by making a donation but also find out more about this fantastic charity!”

The Magnificent Seven are – Jordan Farenden, Shawn Ee, Christian Gethings Behncke, Nikola Shiel, Michael Travis, Kazeem Yusef and Max Hawkins
