INSPIRING THE NEXT GENERATION: time to discover ‘What the Magic Number’ is and why it matters

Posted on August 26th, 2015

INSPIRING THE NEXT GENERATION – the 1st Braughing Scout Group received a special visit earlier this year from The Muscle Help Foundation’s very own Chief Muscle Warrior, CEO and inspirational speaker Michael McGrath.

The one hour evening talk to the Cheetah Cubs Pack took place at Braughing Church Hall in the picturesque village of Braughing located in East Hertfordshire on 11 February 2015.

As you will see from the film below, the children’s imagination and interest was sparked in learning why 657 as a number matters. Referring to the number of muscles in the human body, the #powerof657 campaign launched 12 months ago by the charity directly links its goal to deliver 657 Muscle Dreams for children and young people in the UK with muscular dystrophy and allied neuromuscular conditions.

Speaking from his powerchair (affectionately known as his chariot’), his talk covered an array of subjects including the 2012 Paralympics, disability in today’s society as well as polar bears, penguins and the Poles. Michael also talked about muscles, what muscular dystrophy is and how it has affected his day-to-day life as a result of having the condition. Additionally, he spoke about the work of The Muscle Help Foundation, how the charity’s Muscle Warriors help people and of course the power of that magic number.

Some 40yrs ago, Michael was himself part of the scout movement. A pupil at St John’s Beaumont School in Old Windsor, Berkshire, he was a member of the 14th Windsor Scout Group.

NOTE: Permissions were sought and granted by the 1st Braughing Scout Group Leader to the parents of all the young people featured in the above film.
