The Muscle Help Foundation (MHF) is a member of the Fundraising Regulator (FR), the independent regulator of charitable fundraising in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The Fundraising Regulator stands up for best practice in fundraising, in order to protect donors and support the vital work of fundraisers. They work in partnership with other regulators and the representative bodies in the charitable and fundraising sectors to build public confidence and ensure consistent fundraising standards across the UK.
As a member of the Fundraising Regulator, MHF commits to the highest standards of fundraising and to a set of core principles that include honesty, transparency and accountability. Should there be any concerns about that MHF raises funds, a complaints process is in place, should any issues arise.
Michael McGrath, CEO of MHF said: “As a member of the Fundraising Regulator, I wanted to show the Muscle Help Foundation’s commitment to best practice in our fundraising efforts. With more and more organisations competing for funds, it is important to provide reassurance to the public about how we as a small charity go about asking for money to support our cause.”
The Fundraising Regulator was established in 2016, following widespread concern about how charities contact donors and potential donors. Over the summer of 2015, Sir Stuart Etherington, Chief Executive of the National Council for Voluntary Organisations, led a government-commissioned review into the self-regulation of charity fundraising. The review took evidence from stakeholders in order to identify what changes are required to rebuild public trust in fundraising by charities. The Fundraising Regulator assumed responsibility for regulating fundraising from 7 July 2016.
The Muscle Help Foundation charity adheres to the Fundraising Regulator’s promise that outlines the commitment made to donors and the public by fundraising organisations which register with the Fundraising Regulator. Those who register with the regulator agree to ensure their fundraising is legal, open, honest and respectful. The standards for fundraising are set out in the Code of Fundraising Practice.
