Performance Unlimited, known for business coaching, are demonstrating the impact of executive coaching outside the business arena by supporting an expedition to the North Pole
The company is coaching both Michael McGrath and the expedition leader, Christopher Cope to prepare them for the extreme environment and the physical and mental challenges they will encounter
Michael has Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy and has severe difficulty walking even short distances, feeling the cold more than most. He will be transferred by helicopter on Saturday 13th April to join the final leg of the expedition and hopes to walk the final 150 metres unaided, making history by becoming the first person with MD to conquer the Pole
McGrath says "Performance Unlimited have been fantastic in their support of me. In particular, coaching from Senior Consultant Kathryn Thomason-Hayes has been instrumental in making the impossible possible, enabling me to change limiting beliefs and access internal resources that positively address both my physical and cerebral limitations. An example of this is the ability I now have to physically alter my internal body temperature at will to counteract the extreme cold I will experience. A sort of all-embracing ready-break glow!"
Christopher Cope will be sledge-hauling some 150 kilometres to the North Pole -1 kilometre for every 1000 people affected with Muscular Dystrophy (MD)
David Ross, Managing Director of Performance Unlimited is coaching Christopher to equip him with the physical and mental strategies necessary to survive the treacherous conditions
The money raised by the expedition will pay for new computer equipment for the charity. To help monitor disease progression more efficiently and measure the success of new treatments which will be trialed in 13 major centres in the United Kingdom. It is also hoped these trials will move the search for an eventual cure for this condition forward
