Business Superbrands Tribute Event

9th December, 2003
The Hop Exchange, London

"Your talk at the Business Superbrands Tribute Event was extremely well received. I am, of course, tempted to join you in your pole2pole journey to the South Pole but notice is somewhat short! Are you interested Michael in following up on the idea of a Round the World race?"

Bill Colegrave [Director – Superbrands]

As Michael McGrath made his way to the stage at Superbrands' recent Business Superbrands Tribute Event at The Hop Exchange in London, instead of music heralding his arrival at the podium, we were treated to the strains of the ethereal arctic wind blowing at the North Pole. What better way to make an impact when each speaker for the evening had been given a strict allocation of only 5 minutes?

Michael presented his case for supporting The Muscular Help Foundation and pole2pole with humour and humility, an inspiration to disabled and able-bodied alike. He is truly living proof that ability [and disability] is as much in the mind as it is in the body. His inspirational message came across clearly and succinctly and with a modesty rare for someone who has achieved such a great personal and physical challenge as reaching the North Pole.

His talk was informative, engaging and well received by the 250 attendees, primarily an audience of senior executives in the marketing, branding and PR worlds. Many guests subsequently expressed an interest in sponsorship of Michael's imminent pole2pole expedition to the South Pole.

The fact that so many participants at the event spoke to him after his presentation to learn more about The Muscular Help Foundation and pole2pole is testament to the importance of both his physical journey to Antarctica and his personal journey to raise awareness and funds for global muscle disorders including Muscular Dystrophy.

On behalf of Superbrands and myself, I wish Michael and his team all the luck in the world on his journey!

Superbrands is the independent arbiter on branding. The organisation promotes the discipline of branding and pays tribute to exceptional B2B brands. Superbrands programmes operate in over 25 countries.

Superbrand status is awarded by an independent judging panel of experts. Different juries exist for the different geographical regions to ensure that only the most deserving of brands attain the credential. Only brands that are scored highly by the panel qualify for the status and to be featured in the publication. The shortlist that the panel score is itself derived from a list of thousands of potential brands.

In the UK the organisation also runs the Business Superbrands and Cool BrandLeaders programmes.
