News from the University of Hertfordshire
Hertfordshire man, inspirational business speaker and disability champion, Michael McGrath, delivered a lecture on 25 January entitled "Reaching Beyond – Leadership in Action"
In January 2004 Michael made history after becoming the first disabled person in the world to have reached both North and South Poles – this despite having lost 65% of his muscle bulk through the debilitating muscle wasting disease, Muscular Dystrophy.
Dr Justin Roberts, Senior Lecturer, Sports Science and the University of Hertfordshire was part of the pole2pole Wellbeing, Health and Fitness Support Team that provided advice and guidance to Michael's expedition team. Dr Roberts said: "I look back with tremendous amazement with what Michael actually achieved. We can learn much from his polar experiences"

Many thanks for your presentation at our Hatfield Campus on 25th January 2005. It was hugely inspirational and the students and staff left your lecture discussing the issues you had raised.
I do hope that you enjoyed the opportunity to reach out to a new generation of geographers whom you certainly seem to have inspired and motivated to think more globally in their future studies and future careers
