Haileybury invites you to be a Muscle Warrior

 Haileybury

Haileybury is to host the Muscle Warriors™ inaugural Family Fun Day including 10k run and a splendid 2k Fancy Dress Toddle all in aid of Muscle Dreams™ - this exciting summer fundraising event takes place on National Family Day on Saturday 5th June 2010 in the stunning grounds of Haileybury, an independent, co-educational school located in Hertfordshire. All proceeds will go towards The Muscular Help Foundation (MHF) and its Muscle Dreams™ programme.

"We hope that everyone participating in our charity’s inaugural Muscle Warrior™ 10k and Family Fun Day to include a 2k Fancy Dress Toddle at Haileybury will help us raise vital funds on what I know will be a day filled with sunshine and a lot of fun!," says co-founder and CEO of MHF, Michael McGrath.

"With the support of club runners, families and businesses from across the South East region, we’re urging everyone to help us blast past our goal to raise at least £10,000 via the events dedicated fundraising webpage (see below) – in so doing, we hope to be able to move a little closer towards our wider vision of in time, delivering 657 Muscle Dreams™ for children with muscular dystrophy - the number of muscles in the human body"

As well as welcoming everyone to the event, Michael will lead the 2k Fancy Dress Toddle in his hi-tech "chariot", sporting the much sought-after Muscle Warrior™ t-shirt. While the serious runners are slogging around the 10k course, youngsters accompanied by mums, dads, grannies and granddads - and, of course, their teddy bears - will be toddling, wheeling or in Michael’s case ‘powering’ around the 2k course, taking in the magnificent sights of Haileybury including the spectacular quad, the largest academic quadrangle in the UK.

In addition to the serious business of running, other entertainment and activities on the day will include a climbing wall, a soccer academy, archery, a chance to win a car, a small fun fair, face-painters and access to the indoor swimming pool, to a special teddy bear's picnic, the opportunity to get on court with the Legends Tennis coaching team, and the Paralympic non-contact sport of Boccia (for those who require a wheelchair because of physical disability) that relies on skill and subtlety, rather than size, speed or muscle strength.

Muscle Dreams are amazing experiences designed to help children and young people in the UK whose lives are afflicted by the muscle-wasting disease, muscular dystrophy (MD), the opportunity to live a dream, or perhaps fulfil a cherished ambition.

Muscular Dystrophy is the single biggest genetic killer of children in our world today. With some 75,000 UK sufferers being robbed of their mobility, independence and finally for those with the most severe form known as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) their lives, the charity delivers experiences for people directly affected by this debilitating disease.

Muscle Warriors™ are those generous-hearted people who use for example the power of sport to engage, inspire and raise vital funds - Muscle Warriors™ run across deserts, do triathlons as well as events called GRIM, climb mountains and participate in all sorts of crazy activities to enable Muscle Dreams™ to happen.

About Muscle Dreams™
These can cost anywhere between £250 to for example £5000 - The Muscular Help Foundation (MHF) is unable to fund every single Muscle Dream™ nomination received. If you or your company would like to either help us raise further funds so we can deliver more Muscle Dream™ or perhaps sponsors specific Muscle Dream™ or offer resources (people) with skills and/or time in helping the charity to scale up its operational capability, you can contact us via email or phone us directly on +44 (0) 1763 274658.

The Muscular Help Foundation and Muscle Dreams™ were co-founded by Michael McGrath (sometimes known as the Chief Muscle Warrior™) and Miles Peckham. Michael is CEO of the charity and Miles is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

Michael was an accomplished sportsman as a youngster. At the age of 12 he wanted to be a professional golfer. At 16 he was a keen rugby player. Two years later his sporting ambitions were ended when he was diagnosed with the muscle-wasting disease muscular dystrophy. In January 2004 Michael successfully led a team to the South Pole and in so doing, made history by becoming the first and only disabled person in the world to have reached both North and South Poles - he reached the North Pole in April 2002. Miles assisted Michael as a member of both expedition teams.

Michael was included in the Queen’s 2004 Christmas Day broadcast from Buckingham Palace that reinforced the importance of diversity as a strength and a year later, he received the prestigious 2005 Business Traveller of the Year Award. Now a renowned international speaker, Michael delivers motivational presentations to companies, business leaders and places of learning around the world.
