About Us
The Muscle Help Foundation [MHF] exists to deliver amazing and unforgettable experiences in the UK for children and young people afflicted by the muscle wasting disease, Muscular Dystrophy - we call these experiences Muscle Dreams
With its entrepreneurial spirit, corporate mindset, fresh approach and focus, its Founders and Trustees have established a dynamic intellectual and resource network, rooted in the notion that finding cures for those with neuromuscular diseases is far beyond the scope of any one individual, organisation or research laboratory - hence our focus on delivering highly personalised, individually tailored, transformational experiences that not only provide hope to our beneficiaries but also bring joy to the wider family unit
One of MHF’s core beliefs is that the surest route to the development of effective treatments and therapies for those with neuromuscular diseases is our human ability to inspire active participation by working collaboratively towards a common goal – real people, real actions, real outputs, not simply uplifting human and corporate consciousness, but working smart to make a tangible difference
We want to work with like-minded individuals and organisations that share our vision and values – even if you don’t know anyone affected with Muscular Dystrophy, you are already connected with MHF through the simple act of using your eye muscles to read this sentence – remember, it takes 10 muscles to smile, 12 to frown and just 1 to make a difference, so please do reach out and get involved
Definition of Muscle
muscle n. 1. a tissue composed of bundles of elongated cells capable of contraction and relaxation to produce movement in an organ or part ~ from the Latin musculus, meaning little mouse, from the imagined resemblance of some muscles to mice, from Latin mus mouse
Collins Dictionary Of The English Language [First Published 1979]
On the 13th January 2004, MHF’s Co-founder and Chief Muscle Warrior (CEO) Michael McGrath made history by becoming the first and only disabled person in the world (with Muscular Dystrophy) to have successfully reached both the North and South Poles. Michael McGrath has muscular dystrophy. The project called pole2pole was the inaugural launch event for The Muscle Help Foundation – less we forget, it is the journey that is far more important than the final destination
"In exploring human potential, we are intrinsically connected by muscles that universally bind us together, muscles that give us the power to achieve, to engage, to perform, to unite. In business for example, employees represent the muscular framework, the life-blood that flows through the organisation, the muscles that bind it together – without them, organisations would cease to function” [Michael McGrath]
